5,153 Validated Teachers Of GES To Be Paid

The Ministry of Finance has authorised the Controller and Accountant-General (C&AGD) to pay the outstanding salary arrears of 5,153 validated teachers of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Dan Osman Mwin, Head of Public Relations of the Ministry of Education, said teachers under the employment of GES whose salaries are in arrears in excess of three months would be paid.

“In a letter with reference number BD/CMU/2016/VD67 dated 26th July, 2016, the Ministry of Finance stated that the Auditor-General in a letter No: CGAD/PU/2/VOL.11/154 dated 15th July, 2016 indicated that they had verified the additional data on staff of the Ghana Education Service submitted with respect to salary arrears in excess of three months.

“By a copy of the Ministry of Finance’s letter, the GES was authorised to activate the data of those validated officers to enable the C&AGD effect payment, urging both sides to treat the issue as urgent.

“It should be noted that the data on the affected teachers by the Auditor-General’s Department is a process, and as and when a certain volume of data on individual teachers is verified and authenticated, the list is forwarded to the GES to activate the data on the validated teachers to make it possible for the C&AGD to effect payment.

“The Ministry of Education is pleased with this development and also urges all parties to play their respective roles expeditiously to enable the 5,153 teachers whose data has been validated to receive their outstanding salary arrears,” he added.
