The Minister of Education, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has warned that the Ministry will not tolerate any protocol request from influential persons in society to place their wards in the well-endowed senior high schools (SHSs) this year.
According to her, the protocol list system was denying children from deprived schools who should also benefit from the opportunity to attend the first class schools in the country.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang gave the warning during the launch of the Integrated E-Learning Laboratories Project (IELP) in Accra yesterday, saying the protocol system was becoming a worry to the Ministry.
“While we await the Basic Education Certificate Examination results, we want to state that the Ministry of Education will not accept any protocol request,” she declared.
Under the IELP, 240 public senior high schools across the 10 regions of the country are to benefit from Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratories to facilitate ICT education.
The 13.2 million euros project being financed through a loan from the Belgium government is meant to promote ICT education in the country.
She said government was working to upgrade the less endowed schools to first class schools to provide quality education to all students irrespective of their geographical location.
“Government intends to expand the number of high performing schools and that is the reason why government is putting so much in education,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said.
The Minister said government had made significant progress in quality education delivery in the country, saying that government was working assiduously to increase the text book ratio from one text book to three pupils to four text books to one child.
Touching on the IELP, she said the project formed part of measures to upgrade the less-endowed schools into first class schools.
