Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has charged the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to foment problems in this year’s general election.

He said elections are not a do or die affair, but a contest of ideas to galvanise the people for development.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur was speaking at the National Cadet Leadership Training Camp 2016, at Asuansi Secondary Technical Institute in the Central Region.

This year’s Cadet Leadership Camp which is on theme: “Peace and stability the role of the youth in peace building,” was attended by 10 officers and 105 Cadet Corps from Cadet groups across the country.

The Cadet Corps in Ghana was established in 1954 at Ghana Secondary Technical School, Takoradi.

The aim of establishing the Cadet Corps in schools is to instill discipline and loyalty among students. Currently the corps is the largest youth organisation with membership of 654schools and a numerical strength of 56,380.

The National Cadet Corps is an amalgamation of Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service and the Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur stated that peace and stability are important for the development of the nation and that no country could progress socially, economically if there is no harmony and stability.

He said the training of the youth is very important because they are the foundation of the country.

He noted that the establishment of Cadet Corps in schools, has helped to promote discipline among the youth and improved on their academic performance.

Vice President Amissah-Arthur commended the performance of students in the 2016 WASSCE, saying their results were better than that of 2015.

Dr Kor Jacobs, Director General of the Ghana Education Service, has debunked claims from sections of the public that the 2016 WASSCE results were poor.

He urged Ghanaians not to politicise the current WASSCE results but rather give good suggestions to address any future problems.

He said the criterion for assessing students in WASSCE exams over the years have not changed.
