Military Personnel Call For Better Conditions

Military personnel have asked the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, President John Dramani Mahama, to restore certain allowances that have been scrapped, especially their risk allowance.

According to the men, the risk involved in their job precedes that of politicians, but the latter seems to have more financial comfort than they.

These were said during a short interaction between the President and the officers after he had commissioned a new ultra-modern facility to serve as the headquarters for the Navy at Burma Camp.

Other issues that the men raised were centred on accommodation after serving in the military. They appealed to government to prepare a mechanism through which they would be able to acquire homes being constructed under the Affordable Housing Project.

Civilian employees in the military also called on the President to come to their aid since their remuneration was meagre and conditions of service appalling.

According to them, a lot of allowances promised them, such as uniform allowance, among others, have not been paid. They also claim that the pension given them is so small that most of them die soon after they retire.

In response, the President assured the men that their grievances would be addressed; however, he charged them to keep up the good work and continue to make Ghana proud across the globe.

He noted that Ghana’s troops to United Nations Missions are constantly in high demand because of the exemplary professionalism that they exhibit.

“Because of your hard work, most ships dock at our ports before they proceed to their destinations; your commitment, high sense of duty and patriotism have made our territorial borders safe,” he added.

He assured the officers that his government would do its best to provide the necessary logistics to enhance the performance of the military.
