Takoradi Residents Laud Nana Addos Extra Region Promise

Some residents of the Western Regional capital, Sekondi-Takoradi ,appear to be in favour of a possible 11th region being carved out the northern part of that region.

The Presidential nominee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo, during his just-ended five day tour of the Western Region, revealed the intentions of the NPP to create another region in the north of the region to ensure effective administration and accelerated development.

A deputy Minister and MP for Bodi in the northern part of the Western Region, has however downplayed Nana Addo’s promise as a political gimmick.  In an interview with Citi News, some residents however endorsed Nana Addo’s vision.

One resident was of the view that the NPP could go ahead with the split as long as there is enough resources to cater for it. It depends on who is seeing it as big. If in their own opinion, they think the region should be divided into two, I think it is fine if only there is money enough to cater for that project.
Another posited that, the region could function as a state on its own given the resources the region was endowed with.

“I think the Western Region can even be a state on its own looking at the harbor, an airport, oil and other resources”.

A number of the residents were generally of the view that, the extra region would help better spread the wealth across the region.

Their views were encapsulated by one particular resident who said:

It will be very good if we divide it so the other areas must also have some benefit from the nation. At the moment, the nation has neglected those places without giving them any better development. So if that place is being divided, they can also get something better from the nation.
