Assembly collects more revenue

The Twifo Heman-Lower Denkyira District Assembly collected GHc 134.8 at the second quarter of 2009 against an annual budget of GHc 293.4, Mr. Joseph Foster Andoh, the District Chief Executive, has said. Speaking at an assembly meeting at the weekend he said the total expenditure for the same period last year stood at GHc131.9 leaving a surplus to GHc2, 893.16. This shows 46 per cent of revenue target for 2009, a slight improvement as compared to the same period last year. He appealed to assembly members to work diligently to enhance the socio economic development of the district. Mr Andoh outlined some areas of activity which the assembly would pursue in order to move the assembly forward and these include education, environment and internally generated fund. On education, Mr. Andoh stressed the need to implement the recommendations of education sub committees report notably the need for children in the district to comply with the prep hours. He appealed to the District Director of Education to ensure strict supervision of teachers in the district, adding that teacher absenteeism and drunkenness must be a thing of the past. He said the assembly would continue to support teacher trainees as per the agreement between the district and the trainees. On environment, the environmental and health sub committee recommended that pens should be constructed at Heman and Jukwa to house arrested stray animals as well as building slaughter houses in the two towns.
