Ben Ephson Eats Humble Pie: Apologises To NPP Over False Publication

Ben Ephson, Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch, has eaten the humble pie, with an apology to the New Patriotic Party over a false publication, sourced from a fake memo capturing a so-called strategy by the opposition party to lie to Ghanaians about the governing National Democratic Congress.

The NPP, Wednesday, demanded a retraction of the false publication and apology from Mr Ephson, after the party’s acting General Secretary, John Boadu, had advised him to appreciate the fact that he is more than experienced to allow himself to be manipulated by the governing NDC to spread falsehood about the NPP.

Following the criticism, Mr Ephson, in yesterday’s edition of his paper wrote: “Retraction & Apology to the NPP – Based on the assertion by the NPP that the said memorandum was not theirs, we retract and apologise to the NPP – Editor.”

Meanwhile, the NPP has commended Mr Ephson “for doing the honourable thing.”

“The NPP has taken notice of the apology rendered to the party by Mr. Ben Ephson, Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper in the Thursday 18th August 2016 edition of the paper.

“Even though the party had wished Mr Ephson contacted the party before publication of some document purported to be from the party, the party still commends Mr Ephson for doing the honourable thing,” a statement signed by John Boadu noted.

The statement added: “The party sounds a note of caution to the faceless originators of the fake so called NPP strategic document, that the party and teeming supporters are not diverted by such cheap tricks. They should spend whatever resources they have on ventures that will improve the huge youth unemployment, and crippling cost of living that is killing the Ghanaian people. The NPP also cautions the media to always cross check with the party on such documentation purported to be from the party.”
