Mr Solomon Namlit Boar, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bunkpurugu in the Northern Region, has assured his constituents that he would make education a top priority on the development agenda of the constituency.

The MP, an educationist and management consultant, said he revered education and would continue to expand opportunities for education seeing it as a means to contribute to the process of spiritually uplifting the people.

“I revere education,” the MP, who is also a Member of the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament (PAC), told the Ghana News Agency in an interview on development projects in his constituency.

He participated in a workshop organised by the PAC for members of Parliamentary Press Corps in Koforidua to broaden the understanding of the journalists on the work of the committee.

Mr Boar chronicled some achievements in the education and other sectors since his tenure began and assured the people that he would create an enabling environment for them to live in peace, unity and dignity.

The MP described education as a “bulwark for everything” and announced that he had lobbied the Ghana Education Trust Fund for the construction of a three-unit classroom block each at Nanyiar and Gbetmunpaak and a six-unit classroom block at Nayinmgberuuk.

“I have also established the Boar Academic Excellence Award where at the end of each year pupils who excelled in the Basic Education Certificate Examination and West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination are supported with payment of their fees at the next level of their education,” Mr Boar said.

He said he had so far supported about 300 students at the senior secondary school, the polytechnics, nursing and other tertiary levels of education with the payment of their fees at different times.

“As we enter the 2016/17 academic year more of the young ones would benefit from my education support schemes,” Mr Boar said.

He assured students in the various second cycle and tertiary level institutions outside the Northern Region that he would continue with the Bussing Policy where students would be provided with buses from strategic locations to send them to the Northern Region when school vacates.

Mr Boar noted that he is the National Patron of the Bimoba Students Association and that he had supported the construction of Community-based Health and Planning Services (CHPS) compound at Kinkagu Gbankori and had also paid for the medical bills of some constituents during critical times.
