Policeman Grabbed For Robbery

A thirty-year old policeman was yesterday arrested by the Upper West Regional Police Command, for his alleged involvement in robbery in the Wa Municipality.

Ernest Koranteng is believed to be a member of a gang of robbers who attempted to rob a resident of Kpaguri in the municipality, of his motorbike at midnight.

Briefing The Ghanaian Times yesterday, the regional crime officer, Superintendent Hussein Awunaba said on August 22 at about 12 o’clock dawn, one Sergeant Isaac Adams of the Ghana Prisons Service was riding his motor cycle to the house at St Francis Xavier area from the Wa town.

He said upon reaching Kpaguri a suburb of Wa, three young men managed to trap him off his motorbike with a rope, as a result he fell off from the motor cycle.

Mr. Awunaba said the three men attempted to make away with his bike, however, Sergeant Adams managed to prevent them from taking away the motor cycle.

He said after his attackers had bolted, he found a photocopy of a police Identity Card with the registration number No.43060 with G/Const Ernest Koranteng on it.

He said the prisons officer subsequently lodged a complaint with the police after which the suspect was traced and arrested.

“When he was arrested he denied the allegations though he could not give any tangible explanation as to how his ID card was found in the area,” he added.

He is currently in custody pending further investigations.
