NDC, NPP Supporters Clash Over Limited Registration At Mankranso

There was pandemonium last Friday afternoon at Mankranso, the district capital of Ahafo Ano South, when some supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) clashed with some members of the largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

No arrest was made but some members of both parties sustained minor injuries. The police later dispersed them to restore law and order.

An eyewitness, Ebenezer Owusu Ansah, who briefed the Daily Graphic, said around 2 p.m., members of the public close to the limited registration centre at Mankranso heard some unusual noise and rushed to the scene.

He said early on, the National Democratic Party (NDP) had selected some NPP supporters to be agents for the party at the centre.

He said when agents of the NDC present realised NDP was relying on rival NPP agents, they became infuriated, hence their protest.

The protest staged by the NDC agents turned into a misunderstanding with the NPP supporters present.

He said later police officers arrived at the scene to restore law and order for the registration to continue.

When contacted, the acting Mankranso District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police John Dapaa, confirmed the incident.

He said the district command had begun investigations into the matter.
