Kintampo Gonja Chief Killed By Suspected Armed Highway Men

The Chief of the Gonja ethnic group at Kintampo in the Brong-Ahafo Region was on Sunday (August 28), shot dead by suspected Fulani armed robbers at Bare-Nkwanta near Zamerama, in the Kintampo North Municipality.

Alhaji Abdul Aziz, the deceased, aged 67 according to Police reports, was travelling from Kintampo to Yeji in his private car in the company of one Masawuhudu Issaka, 57, when the suspected armed robbers struck and shot the two, killing the chief instantly and injuring Issaka.

Police Superintendent Alhaji Maama Arhin, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Crime Officer confirming reports to the Ghana News Agency on Monday in Sunyani, said Issaka, sustained serious gunshot wounds and is on admission at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), in Kumasi.        

He said the incident happened at about 1200 hours that fateful day.     

Superintendent Arhin said the Kintampo Police upon hearing the incident besieged the area in search of the suspected robbers, but no avail.   

“No arrest has been made yet ,but the Police have intensified investigations to arrest those perpetrators”, he added.
