Chop Bar Operator Grabbed For Selling Attendant

A 46-year old chop bar operator from Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region has been arrested by the Tepa Police for allegedly attempting to send a woman to Ivory Coast for ritual purposes. Briefing the Times yesterday, the Tepa Divisional Crime Divisional Officer, Emmanuel Adu-Boahene, said on Wednesday October 7, his outfit had information that the suspect, Afia Sika was trafficking one of her attendants, Theresa Abena Frimpomaa, to the Ivory Coast. He said, plain clothed policemen trailed the suspect and feigned interest to purchase the victim for similar ritual purpose. The woman agreed and offered to victim for sale at GH�10,000, but the price was bargained down to GH�6,000. Mr. Adu-Boahene said he personally gave GH�2,000 cash and a cheque of GH�4,000 to the suspect. The next day, police in plain clothes went to the woman again and expressed interest to buy another person. In the course of the transaction uniformed policemen came around and arrested all of them. According to the crime officer the woman admitted that she was going to sell the victim for ritual purposes. Frimpomaa told the police that Sika asked her to accompany her to Tepa to buy cassava and other foodstuff for her chop bar. She did not know that her intention was to sell her for ritual purposes. The suspect was remanded in prison custody by the Goaso Circuit Court to appear on October 20.
