Police Ask Public To Stay Off Government Lands

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Martin Ayiih, the Adenta Divisional Commander, has called on property developers to verify the availability of the lands they seek to purchase.

He said this is important because within the Divisional Command, there has been increasing complaints of private developers encroaching on government lands.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, ACP Ayiih said government lands are not controlled by traditional families who sometimes show unreliable documents as proof of ownership.

He said there are instances where fake site plans have been issued as proof of ownership to unsuspecting victims (property developer) and in many of such cases, the onus lies on the victim  to do due diligence on the tract of the land being sought before agreeing on terms of payment.

ACP Ayiih said if this is not done and the developer goes ahead to develop the property, government should not be blamed when it comes to reclaim the land.

He also called on pedestrians, drivers and all users of the main roads to be mindful of their activities.

ACP Ayiih said over a couple of weeks, the irregular occurrence of accidents within the Divisional Command, especially during weekends, involving pedestrians and other users of the roads are quite worrying.

He also called on drivers to drive within the expected speed limits especially along the service roads attached to the main highway adding that “over speeding” offenders on the service roads would not be tolerated.

ACP Ayiih also appealed to the contractors of the Madina-Adenta highway to speed up work on the various footbridges to save lives.
