Ghana Golf Development Board Roll Out Try Golf Initiative

The Ghana Golf Development Board (GGDB) in collaboration with the Damang Golf Club (DGC) has rolled out an initiative aimed at taking golf to the various communities in Damang in the Western Region.

The initiative dubbed ‘Try Golf’, is designed to teach pupils in basic schools to play the game and also nurture them to become future champions.

The Director of Golf in Ghana, Mr Steve Wilson, after a visit to the Bompieso Basic School, said the GGDB is donating sets of basic golf equipment to the various clubs in Ghana.

Mr Wilson said he will be training the local professionals on how to take golf to the schools to get the kids interested in the game.

“People perceive Golf as an elite sport and to break that barrier, we have to take golf into the schools with a fun-oriented golf set so that they can have some fun whiles learning the sport.”

He said Damang would not be the only community to benefit from the project, and that, he will be visiting four more clubs in the coming days.

The Captain of Damang Golf Club, Mr Pius Appiah Ayeh noted that, the project by the GGDB was in line with his club’s drive to get young talented kids interested in the discipline

He said his club’s vision is to take golf to the communities and also support the less privileged to have interest in the game of golf.

“The response has so far been massive and we have had calls from the local schools to teach their kids, so we have developed a module to take care of the schools in our surrounding community,” he said.
