Farmer Jailed For Threatening To Kill Ex-Girlfriend

The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced a 50-year-old farmer to nine years imprisonment in hard labour for threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend at Agogo in the Asante Akim North District. Daniel Kwame Owusu pleaded guilty with explanation but could not convince the presiding Judge, Mr S. K. Sarpong Appiah. Prosecuting, Police Detective, Inspector Eric Atasi, said both the complainant and the accused were farmers at Agogo. He said between 2007 and 2008 Owusu befriended the complainant and that, during their stay, they cultivated maize and plantain but a misunderstanding over the sharing of the proceeds of the farm led to the break-up of the relationship. Prosecution said after the break-up, the complainant entered into another relationship with one Kofi Robbert which infuriated Owusu. On September 14, 2009, at about 1900 hours, Owusu met the daughter of the complainant in town and asked her to inform her mother that he would kill her if he saw her near any of the farms. Inspector Atasi said on September 23, Owusu went to the house of Robbert where he threatened to kill the complainant if she dared entered the farms but this time Robbert, together with the complainant, reported the matter to the Police.
