Mahama And His Government Wasting Huge Resources - Dr. Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lambasted President John Dramani Mahama and his government for wasting huge resources of the country.

According to him, the Mahama government has over the years, since inception of the Mills/Mahama regime, spent "12 times the nominal resources" than what the NPP had in all its 8 years under the erstwhile Kufour regime.

Delivering a public lecture on the state of Ghana's economy at the National Theatre in Accra, the Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party bemoaned the borrowing and spending habit of the Mahama administration.

He noted that the government has had most resources than any government in the annals of the country's history.

He therefore thought that President John Mahama and his government would utilize the resources at their disposal but on the contrary, the government has only succeeded in laying waste to the economic resources.

“From 2001 to 2008, taxes and loans only amounted to 20 billion Ghana cedis. In contrast; taxes, loans and oil revenue alone over the last 8 years will amount to GHC 248 billion . . . The Mills/Mahama government, over the last 8 years, would have had more 12 times the nominal resources than what the NPP had. The question therefore Ghanaians should be asking is how has management of the huge resources at the disposal of John Mahama government impacted on the economy?”

Borrowing a catch phrase from President John Mahama who's noted to have said in 2008 that "to whom much is given, much is expected", Dr. Bawumia also asked permission "to borrow the exact words to describe his government’s exact performance in the last 8 years. In this regard, it is important to emphasize, for the record; that measured in terms of today’s dollars and cedis, no government since independence has had the amount of resources in terms of tax revenue, cocoa exports, gold exports, oil revenues and loans as the two NDC administrations between 2009 and 2016.”

He disclosed that under the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana's debt has ballooned to GHC 100 billion in 2015 and a GHC 105 billion by May, 2016.
