Rapist Robbers Arrested

The Amasaman Police have arrested three out of 10 suspected armed robbers who allegedly robbed and raped their victims within the Pokuase and Amasaman area on Tuesday. Those arrested were identified as Mawutor Gartor, 34, Yaw Moses, 24, and Isaac Abeo, 45. They were said to be part of a 10-man gang that allegedly robbed and raped women within the Pokuase area on October 13, 2009. The robbers allegedly robbed more than five bungalows and made away with laptops, gold watches, mobile phones, DVD players and huge sums of money including foreign currencies. Briefing Daily Guide, the Amasaman District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Stephen Kwesi Kwakye, stated that at about 2:15am on Tuesday October 13, 2009, the police had a distress call from Pokuase near Amasaman that a gang of armed men was raiding some house in the area. He said the armed robbers were said to be using pump action guns, knives, clubs and cement blocks to attack their victims. �One of them, identified as Mawutor Gartor, was alleged to have also been raping the lady victims in the process of the robbery. He narrated that when the robbers approached the victims� houses, they broke the doors with a cement block and demanded money, adding that female victims who failed to produce the requested funds were allegedly raped by the robbers. After raping their preys, the robbers were said to have taken away whatever they could lay their hands on before leaving to the next house. According to the District Commander, when the robbers attacked the first victim and his family, they made away with three phones, assorted jewelleries and GH�60. �The same (group of) robbers then went to the next apartment and bolted away with five mobile phones and an amount of GH�1,200. They then went to Pokuase Ridge Bungalow 13 and raided one Vinolia Tonugle of two laptop computers, phones, gold watches, and rings, DVD player and amounts of $8700 dollars and GH�2,800.� He averred that when the armed robbers saw the police patrol team, they took to their heels, seeking refuge in a nearby bush. �Upon a hot chase by the police men, three of them were arrested and the victims came to identify them.� DSP Kwakye also revealed that the arrested robbers had in their possession three laptops, one palmtop computer, 13 assorted phones, DVD player, five bunches of keys, live AAA cartridges, a live AK47 ammunition, eight wrist watches, bracelets, four gold rings and three pen drives among other items. He disclosed that only one person had come out to identify one of the robbers as having raped her. He therefore called on all victims to come out and identify their suspects before they are taken to court.
