Tema West Parliamentary Independent Candidate Woo Voters With Youth Empowerment Strategy

Mr Solomon Amponsah, the only independent Parliamentary Candidate vying for the Tema West seat, says most young voters are attracted to his youth empowerment campaign agenda because it addresses their concerns.

Speaking at the maiden Tema Parliamentary Debate organised by the Institute for Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI), he said the youths of the country need to be awakened to their duties and privileges in society.

The ILAP is a non- partisan and non-profit policy research Think Tank based in Tema.

Mr Ankoma , who is a telecomunication engineer, said he intends to institute a Youth Parliament which would draw membership from all the communities to debate and take consensus on issues affecting the youth and the communities.

According to him, such tabled issues would guide him to properly execute his mandate as a Member of Parliament.

Mr Amponsah said Tema Metropolis was well resourced with social and economic amenities and employment opportunities but the youths were not well prepared to tap into it.

"I will use my share of the common fund and seek other forms of funding to train the youth to be employable in Tema's vibrant maritime and industrial sectors."

Mr Peter Bismark Kwofie, President,ILAPI,who moderated the debate, said the forum was created for the parliamentary candidates to communicate their visions effectively to the constituents thereby strengthening the democratic dispensation of Ghana.

"This would also popularise the ideas they have on the growth and sustainability of Tema and Ghana as a whole."

Mr Carlos Ahenkora and Mr James Enu, New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidates respectfully, failed to attend.
