Editorial: Discordant Oratorios

For Dr. Sipa Yankey, the halcyon days are gone and what is left for him to do now as the Mabey & Johnson fire consumes the vestiges of respect left about his reputation and even government, is to pull down others, by all means. He is singing rather loudly, unproductively and discordantly, at various radio stations but it would have served his interest and governments if his minders could pull back the reins. Having denied any bribe-taking he has changed the tune of his discordant music, the result of which are pieces of ear-piercing and cacophonous oratorios, unintelligible, strewn across radio stations like birds droppings. Verity plays a critical role in the building of reputations; it is worrisome therefore when superficially-looking gentlemen throw this critical attribute to the winds and peddle mendacity. We can only look on and wonder: Whatever happened to honour as a now desperate Sipa Yankey throws mud in all directions-from the stable of the NPP to NDC? Desperation can easily provoke such behaviour from even highly educated and skilled personalities like the Sipa Yankeys who should ordinarily know better about the uselessness of the enterprise he has embarked upon at this time. Alhaji Baba Kamara, known for his generosity and affableness, and ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor whose good governance pedigree is world renowned, as well as the sterling British High Commissioner to Ghana are the victims of Dr. Sipa Yankeys careless mud-throwing. It does not take an extraordinary intelligence to conclude that Sipa Yankeys recent enterprise is much ado about nothing. When did Sipa Yankey decide to review his position of no bribe taking to having been pestered as it were by Baba Kamara to furnish him with his accounts number so money can be channeled into it? Baba Kamara without doubt could not have been so daft as to insist that Sipa Yankey take money when he (Sipa) declined the manna from Mabey & Johnson. Dr. Sipa Yankey appears to have an axe to grind with Baba Kamara and would rather he too attracts the kind of bad press he has garnered for himself. The peculiarity about Dr. Sipa Yankey is that he has been here before, or as the French would say, de ja vu. We would rather he carries his cross like a man and avoid this nonsense of I have never taken a bribe before. We wonder what the Baba Kamara element in the way it is being woven into his plight is intended to achieve other than just a typical Sipa diabolism. Why would he not allow the man to take his turn and explain himself at whatever probe instead of the destroy-Kamara project he is unfurling? As for the Kufuor element it is understandable since it was under the gentlemans rule of law and good governance regime that he found himself in a plenipotentiary over an impropriety. In yet another sign of desperation he charged the British High Commissioner Nick Westcott for being spotted as he put it, in the company of Nana Akufo-Addo before the runoff of last year. And so what, if we may ask, Dr. Sipa Yankey? British diplomats are a special breed of politicians who know where to go and where not to and so for these gentlemen and gentlewomen to be seen in a company there should be something noble about such places. See why a British diplomat would not be spotted in the company of the Sipa Yankeys?
