The Essence of Live Band Music & Performance

Live band music is performing a song at a venue in front of an audience/fans. It doesn’t matter the music genre, all you have to do is to step up front.

Live band music has existed from immemorial; before the 1980s. Worth mentioning are the Slipknot of America, the Big band; in fact they do jazz, punk jazz and all of that, the Rolling stone from London. Actually this band has been active from the 1960s up to the 80s. Yea.

Not to make it sound all groupie and creamy, Africa has had the crisp of Tinariwen since 79, the unique Amadou and Mariam, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the unforgettable Papa Wemba whom we lost in the first quarter of the year.

You know, Ghana in particular has had something good to offer when it comes to live music . Efya, Sarkodie, Papa Yankson, Amakye Dede, and the ones you could remember. But do we still hear from them?

Doing live performance is a breathtaker to both artist and audience. Even though some musicians may say it quite a daunting task to do live music, I say,  somehow. Can you imagine a baker asking if it were necessary to know how to bake every kind of pastry? Mmm. Or, a chef if he has to know how to prepare every kind of dish? . It’s a resounding YES! Every true, real musician should be a live performer. It adds a bit to the icing on the cake. Live band music draws deep inspiration, it gives exposure, it opens a way for multiple experiences with audience, band mates and yourself.

An artist who rarely does live band music may think he’s got the fan base. Ooops . Really? That’s a real big joke. The real fans come from real unique interactions. Got it? Touring brings you better income than sit in the luxury of your home and create MySpace for your fans. How’s that? Even the very best of songwriters jump in to town!

You just lose a fountain of diamonds when you just wake up and do hard sessions in the studio. Do something different but the same yet most difficult thing for people to do. You need consistency.

And I  found out just why people crave for live band music, the energy, its massive, it’s like doing some 200 meter relay race. The connection it gives to memories, the love that is shared. Unintentionally, the strongest fandom is created because one man loves the energy and shares the vibes.

Lastly, ahhh,  the sweat from that dance. Ouch! Live band.
