Notorious Car Snatchers Grabbed

Three notorious car snatchers who have been terrorizing residents of Kumasi with their illicit activities are in the grips of the law, according to the police. The trio includes 21-year-odl Alhassan Babdal, the ring leader, Ishaku Abubakari, 28, and Aminu mohammed. DCOP Patrick Timbillah, at a press conference, said the gang on Friday October 9, 2009 snatched a taxi cab at South Suntreso as they were given a wild chase by residents. The suspected car snatchers, he narrated, driving at top speed, went into a ditch, leading to the apprehension of Isahaku whilst his two other accomplices fled. Ishaku, upon interrogation, named Babdal as the master-mind. The police then traced Babdal, eventually arresting him and Aminu Mohammed in the early hours of Tuesday October 13 at the Race Course slum area. Items found on Babdal included three locally manufactured pistols, hoods, four live cartridges and assortment of mobile phones. DCOP Timbillah noted that investigations were still ongoing; promising to ensure the law takes its course in the matter.
