Zoil Ghana to Employ another 1,000 Fresh Graduates

One thousand young graduates, from the various tertiary institutions in the country, are the gain employment under the auspices of ZOIL Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Zoom Lion Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of Zoom Lion Ghana Limited, which is working in collaboration with the government of Ghana to beautify our beaches. The western regional Operations Supervisor of Zoom lion Ghana Limited, Mr. Gershon Sogbey, who made this known in an interview with The Chronicle, said apart from the 10,000 Ghanaians who have been gainfully employed the company, in collaboration with government through the EcoBrigade project, the young graduates would also complement the companys efforts in carrying out certain specific duties. The 10,000 eco-brigade personnel are currently under training until November, when they would be fully equipped to take care of the beaches in the country. Zoil Ghana limited and the relevant stakeholders are therefore engaging the young graduates to join hands in the implementation of the Eco-Brigade project. Touching on the implement of the project in the Western Regional where oil drilling exercise is expected to commence next year, Mr. Sogbey noted that the various beaches in the six coastal districts of the region, including Jomoro, Nzema East, Ellembele, Ahanta West, Sekondi-Takoradi and Shama remain relatively clean. As a result, he said, workers who had been engaged to do the work had been tasked by the company to give off their best, and ensure that they comply with the training programme being given to them. He said since the parent company (Zoomlion) has been recognized by institutions in both the private and public sector as the best waste management company in and outside Ghana, workers of Zoil have the responsibility to ensure that it has follows the same standard. Consequently, workers of Zoil have been tasked by the company to take up the responsibility of watching over the sustenance and growth of a coconut tree each. it is to enable the company to follow its vision of enriching and beautifying the beaches with the necessary coconut trees, that in the near future could goad tourists into the region, he said. According to the supervisor, if we maintain the standard that Zoomlion has set over the years, we can do something better, not only in the fishing communities, but in every part of the region, and the country, this is because the Eco-Brigade projects is not only aimed at cleaning our beaches, but it will also ensure that our teeming youth are adequately engaged in fruitful ventures. Mr. Gershon pointed out that for the company to be able to succeed in meeting its target, and getting the youth encouraged in running the project with all the seriousness it desired, they (Zoil) had acquired disease resistant coconut seedlings purposely for the project. According to him, if one coconut tree should die, the brigade responsible for that tree will be held responsible by the company, because we want the project to make a huge impact in the coastal communities, that is why we have made it one staff responsible for one coconut tree, and its growth, and survival will depend on that staff, he added. Apart from this herculean task placed on the shoulders of the workers, the company and its relevant stakeholders are also foreseeing environmental challenges in the not too distant future, as the oil industry in Ghana takes off the environmental challenges that the oil drilling exercise will pose, particularly to the sea, will be addressed by these people. Therefore, training the workers on how to deal with oil spillages, should it occur in the course of drilling the black commodity, is our concern as well. It is anticipated that the impending activities from the oil industry that is yet to take off in Ghana, would worsen the current situation at the already poor beaches, if adequate and preventive measures are not put in place to deal with potential environmental threats. This is the role that the Eco-Brigade tea, according to Gershon, is putting together by Zoil Ghana Limited and the Government of Ghana, with the hope to play their part in tackling the challenges ahead.
