Police jubilate over peaceful Chereponi bye-election

The Northern Regional Police Command led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Peter Angwubutoge Awuni, Northern Regional Police Commander, celebrated, dance and wine on Friday over Chereponi bye-election, which they say was peaceful, free and fair on 29 of September 2009. The Police Commander who danced, jubilated and wined with his officers in Tamale, reminded them that the Northern command was the most challenging considering its political activities and numerous conflicts. Mr. Awuni commended the media whose continuous reportage led to peaceful bye-election and urged the police personnel to be alert and ensure adequate security for the citizens despite their few numbers. He named neatness, punctuality, alertness, obedience, oppressive conduct and divulging matters of secret to unauthorized persons as areas he would punish offenders. The Police Commander entreated his commanders to wage a relentless war on indiscipline to forestall the confidence of the public in the service. He warned the police personnel to be alert when on duty, since armed robbers had started targeting police personnel and gunning them down. Mr. Awuni said the activities of armed robbers in the region had reduced with the arrest of the notorious armed robber; Johnson Kombian and his accomplices Kofi Noumah and Kono Findis. The arrest of Awudu Banja by the Togolese Police has also helped. Group Captain Philip Ayisa of the Northern Military Command urged all the security agencies in the region to do their best to maintain peace at all times despite the difficulties. He observed that if security personnel were to do their work diligently, there would be continues peace in the region.
