The Chief Priest of the Great Ningo Traditional Area in the Greater Accra Region, Nene Charway Wornor, has  described as false  allegations leveled against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the area;  Samuel Nartey George, as  the mastermind of the recent violence that erupted during tthe Homowo  durbar.

The chief cleared the NDC candidate and instead, blamed the Acting Paramount Chief for the Ningo Traditional Area, Nene Karnor Atiapah III for the incident.

According to, Nene Charway Wornor, Nene Atiapah, failed to adhere to demands by some well-known chiefs in the area to perform an annual rite for their ancestors before the celebration of every festival in the area.

He indicated that since the acting president was installed, the traditional area has not seen or experienced peace. He has therefore called on the people to stop blaming the NDC PC for the unlawful act.

Nene Wornor, hinted that Sam George sponsored the celebration of the festival and could not turn around to disrupt it.

The Chief Priest described the allegations as mere fabrication against Sam George and therefore called on the constituency electorates to ignore the allegations and vote massively for the NDC PC in the December polls.

In a related development, the executive body of the party in the constituency, at a press conference at Prampram yesterday reacted to the allegations against the party’s PC, indicating that the NDC was a political entity which is focused on victory in the 2016 general elections for the PC and the party and therefore have no interest in the traditional affairs of both the traditional council in the constituency.

In an address, the Constituency Secretary, Cephas Kwasi Tei, stated that the party respects the constitutional autonomy of both traditional councils and as a political party they would not engage in any act that might affect the current peace enjoyed by the people in the area.

The Homowo festival,  he said was organized by the Ningo Traditional Council and they (the NDC) only visited the council with the party’s PC to make  their presentation as a political party to support the ceremony but not to disrupt it as was  been reported in the media.

“How could somebody who sponsored an event with a huge amount of money turn to disrupt its beauty after” he queried.

The Constituency Secretary confidently mentioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Sylvester Tetteh and the Acting President of the Ningo traditional Area, Nene Atiapah III, as the people behind the confusion not Sam George.

He  said the party’s executives are prepared to seek redress at the law court if the accusers fail to prove their claim  within a week.

Mr. Tei expressed shock at the acting paramount chief of the area after their cordial relationships for many years.
