President John Evans Atta Mills has inaugurated a 33-bed hospital constructed by the Saviour Church of Ghana at Osiem in the Eastern Region. The Christian Hawa Memorial Saviour Hospital has an Out Patient Department, Maternity Department, Gynecology Department, Orthopedic Theatre, X-ray Department, laboratory and a Pharmacy. Inaugurating the project on Saturday as part of his three- day tour of the region, President Mills congratulated the church for establishing a hospital to support the government in the provision of better health care for Ghanaians. He assured the church of the readiness of government to do all within its powers to support it to provide health care for its members and people in the area. The Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Erasmus Agongo, said that the Service would support the church to enable it effectively implement its health care programme. The General Superintendent of the Church, Opanyin Abraham Kweku Adusei appealed to the Ministry of Health to assist the church to get accreditation for the National Health Insurance Authority so that people could access health care and also enable the hospital to raise revenue. He appealed to the President to donate support the hospital with an ambulance to enable it to easily transport patients referred to other hospitals. Opanyin Adusei said because of the hospital was close to the Accra-Kumasi highway, accident victims were often rushed there and the non-availability of an ambulance made the transportation of referred patients difficult. Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, Okyenhene, called on the people to support the church's health programmes. The President called on the leadership of the Muslim Communities in the region in Koforidua to thank them for their prayers and support during last year's General Election, which brought the National Democratic Congress back to power. Spokesperson for the Muslim Community in Koforidua, Alhaji Suleman Salifu appealed to government to complete the rehabilitation of roads and the market at the Koforidua Zongo. He also asked government to assist the Islamic Senior High School in Koforidua and contribute to the Muslim Education fund which had sponsored over 50 brilliant but needy students to secondary and tertiary institutions in the country.
