Court Sentences Man To A Days Imprisonment Over Drugs

A self-styled evangelist has been sentenced to one-day prison term by a Kumasi Circuit Court over the use of marijuana.

George Agbenyor, pleaded guilty to the offence but said the drug was for the treatment of his hernia.

He was arrested by the police on May 27, and was held for more than four months in prison custody.

The court presided over by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire, passing the sentence, said she took into consideration the time he spent in remand, the fact that he was a first time offender and the quantity of the drug found on him.

“Sit here, when I go, then you go home. Sin no more,” she told him.

Police Chief Superintendent, Mr. Emmanuel A. Akunnor, said the convict was arrested at Asafo in Kumasi, based upon a tip off.

A search conducted by officers of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit uncovered the drug, weighing 4.57 grams.

He added that sample sent for forensic laboratory examination confirmed that it was marijuana.
