Peabo Explosion Victims Appeal For Assistance

The people of Peabo in the Eastern Region who were hit by dynamite explosion disaster in December last year, have called for government’s assistance to alleviate them from their sufferings.

The incident led to the loss of lives the destruction of properties running into millions of Ghana cedis.

Mr Frank Annor Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri made the appeal on behalf of the victims at a news conference at Nsawam.

He said: “It is sad to know that close to one year after this particular incident, we have not heard nor had any meaningful intervention from the Government.  People who were displaced are still homeless.

“The most demoralising aspect of this whole matter is that the report of the Peabo explosion is still with the Government and refusing to make it public had left the poor victims to their fate.”

Mr Dompreh said as the representative of the people: “I have never taken rest on this critical and highly sensitive matter by undertaking inspections and assessment and making personal donations including building materials and settlement of medical bills to the victims.”

He said government’s silence on the matter is long over-due, highly unacceptable and clearly out of place.

He expressed gratitude to the victims for their patience and urged them to keep faith while strings are pulled for everything permissible to be done by law for them to live comfortably like others.
