Media Urged To Promote Peace In Northern Region

Mr Caesar Abagali, the Northern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists’ Association, has urged media practitioners in the Region to work to promote peace during this year’s elections.

He advised media practitioners to uphold the highest ethical standards and avoid reportage that incited violence.

Mr Abagali was speaking in Tamale at a capacity building workshop for media practitioners to report effectively on the December polls.

The workshop, organised by the Northern Region Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) in collaboration with the European Union, was also to share information on the Constitutional Instrument (C.I 94), which forms part of the laws governing the conduct of the December polls.

Mr Abagali urged media practitioners to educate the electorate on the manifestoes of the political parties to enable them to make informed choices.

He also urged them to give equal coverage to all political parties and be impartial in their reportage.

Mr Bruce Ayisi, the Northern Regional Director of EC, called for accurate reportage on the electoral process to ensure free and fair elections.
