Police Service Trains 50 CID Personnel

A five-day training workshop for 50 Criminal Investigators of the Ghana Police Service is underway in Accra. The personnel were drawn from the Volta, Upper East, Upper West, Brong Ahafo and the Northern regions. The training seeks to equip detectives with new technological skills in crime investigations, introduce personnel to the use of modern equipment in information and intelligence gathering and how to gather evidence and present it in court. Representing the IGP, Mr. Tawiah Quaye, the Director-General of the CID, DCOP Frank Adu Poku, noted that, the collapse of the CID training school over the years has had negative impact over crime management, since many of the detectives have not had formal detective training. DCOP Adu- Poku noted the supreme role of the CID within the service being paramount to their image. Therefore if the CID lacks adequate investigative capability, the Police Service would be found wanting. He therefore urged the participants to observe the human rights of all suspects they deal with and treat them with dignity.
