Addo Rues Red but says he had to Tackle

Daniel Addo rues missing his best chance of finishing last Fridays Fifa U-20 World Cup finals against Brazil in Cairo due to his early sending off though Ghana went on to win on penalties after extra-time. Aside Ghanas success, the game will also be remembered for Addo receiving a red card. The Black Satellites defender was dismissed 37 minutes into the game after his challenge on Brazils Alex Teixeira drew the red card from referee Frank De Bleeckere. Following his absence, Ghana rallied on with 10 men for the remaining 83 minutes of the 120 minute game to win a first world title by an African side 4-3 via the penalty shoot-out after both sides failed to score in normal time. It was sad to be shown the red card in that all-important game. I felt I had let down my colleagues and country. It was a crucial game for everyone. But I am happy now because we won it. Looking back, I believe anything could have happened in that game though we were determined to win, Addo, clutching onto the World title told www.ghanafa.org in Accra on Monday. The major talking point of the first half was about his tackle on the Brazilian in the 37th minute, Addo believes the Belgian officials decision was rushed but insists that the challenge was necessary. I wasnt the last man as the referees decision implied. My colleagues were tracking back to stop him (Teixeira). But I must say, I had to stop him. I had no option than to challenge for the ball. I did that but caught him a bit. I had to do that tackle or he could have gone on to score and that could have changed the course of the game. I am proud that we won after all and we are grateful to God, the Ghana defender added.
