Why Can�t Ghanaian Media Compete With CNN or BBC? - Dr. Nii Kotei Dzani Asks

Dr. Nii Kotei Dzani, Group Chief Executive Officer of Group Ideal says Accra-based free-to-air TV station; TV Africa will soon set an international standard in broadcasting in the country.

“I am not satisfied with the media here in Ghana. Why can’t we compete with the CNN or BBC?” he questioned in a ceremony in Accra last Friday when his company announced the acquisition of a 70% stake in TV Africa.

According to him “My vision of TV Africa is to move it to the level where we can be proud as Ghanaians and Africans. I am not going to relent on my effort until we are as good as the international stations.”

The colorful ceremony also saw the unveiling of a new logo for the station – Dr Nii Kotei Dzani however noted that “We have invested so much in technology, equipment, human resource among others. You will see the new image of TV Africa.”

He also warned staff of the station to exhibit professionalism in their line of work or face his wrath prior to the December 7, elections.

“The problem of our country is unprofessional media. They [Media] report on what they don’t understand. TV Africa must set the pace of excellence. Ghana will not break after this election, this is what I expect the media to educate Ghanaians on. The media must not create panic.”

“ . . As the chair of TV Africa, I want professionalism and I won’t hesitate to sanction anybody who goes against that,” he said. 

However, founder of TV Africa, Kwaw Ansah expressed happiness with the partnership if Group Ideal  “I have no doubt that with this partnership, TV Africa will finally achieve its objective of finding a strong voice.”
