Set Up Permanent Offices In All 275 Constituencies - Hon. Afenyo-Markin Tells EC

NPP Member of Parliament for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to set up offices in all constituencies in the country.

According to him, the establishment of an office in each of the 275 constituencies will help facilitate the work of the EC.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Hon. Afenyo-Markin questioned the inability of the EC to have offices across the country.

He noted that if the Commission has been able to create 275 constituencies, they should equally create the offices to "give assurance to the people that we will do the work" they've been assigned to do.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin was of a strong belief that for the purpose of administration, the Commission should look at the possibilities of setting up the offices and not think it would be expensive for each constituency in Ghana to have an EC office.

To him, the Regional EC Offices are not enough to cover all the administrative works that may go on during the elections.

“You need a permanent office for the purpose of administration. Well, democracy is expensive. Yes, to ensure free and fair elections. To ensure transparency, to give assurance to the people that we will do the work; I think that it won’t be too expensive for the State to afford. If they can create 275 constituencies, why do they say they cannot create 275 offices? And the State cannot afford it?” he told the EC Boss, Charlotte Osei.
