EC Rejects 6; Ayariga, Akua Donkor OUT...But Nduom, Mrs Rawlings, Mahama Qualify

The Electoral Commission of Ghana has cleared three presidential hopefuls to contest this year’s December polls.

The three; the Progressive Peoples Party’s Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the National Democratic Party’s Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings and the People's National Convention’s Dr. Edward Nasigre Mahama were passed by the EC as presidential candidates for the December 7 elections.

They will join the four candidates who were earlier cleared by the Commission.

They are Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and Jacob Osei Yeboah, an independent candidate.

The chairperson of EC, Mrs Charlotte Osei made this known on Thursday.

Out of the total number of presidential aspirants who re-submitted their nomination forms to the commission on Tuesday, as ordered by the Supreme Court, six of them failed to meet the requirements for the second time.

They are the Great Consolidated Popular Party's (GCPP), Dr Henry Lartey, Hassan Ayariga of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Akua Donkor of Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Kofi Apaloo of Independent Peoples Party, Nana Agyenim Boateng of United Front Party (UFP) and independent aspirant Kwame Asiedu Walker.

Others such as the Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD), Kwabena Adjei and Akwasi Addae Odike of the United Progressive Party (UPP) pulled out of the race.

The United Development Systems Party (UDSP), Tetteh and the Democratic People's Party's (DPP), T.N. Ward Brew could not re-submit their nomination forms because of some challenges.
