AG Hasn't Abandoned Woyome Case . . . She Won't Just Do Oral Exams - Pratt

Kwesi Pratt Jnr., the Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper, has come to the defence of the Attorney General for discontinuing her oral examination of businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome in the controversial GHC 51m judgment debt saga.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Kwesi Pratt noted that the issue has been misconstrued and there are lots of misconceptions surrounding the matter.

In his attempt to clarify the issues, Mr. Pratt stressed that the Attorney General's Department has not abandoned the case as held widely in the public eye.

He explained that the only thing the Attorney General has done is to withdraw from examining Mr. Woyome orally but the judgment debt case still holds in the court of law.

Mr. Pratt's clarifications follows claims by pressure group, Occupy Ghana, purporting that the Attorney General pursue the Woyome case to its final conclusion; ensuring that he refunds the money paid in debt to him by the State.

To Mr. Pratt "the process is continued. The case is before court. Evidence has been taken and so on. They’ve reached a point where the Attorney General is supposed to be orally examining Woyome. And she says I won’t do oral examination. The Attorney General has not withdrawn the case . . . If the lawyer says that she won’t do oral examination, it is not in abandonment of the case.”
