Defence Minister cuts sod for Air Force project

Defence Minister, Lieutenant General Joseph Henry Smith (Rtd) on Friday cut the sod for work to begin on a 54-room complex for junior ranks of the Ghana Air Force (GAF). It forms part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee celebration of the GAF. The one-storey Air Force Jubilee House is expected to provide accommodation for 160 personnel. The project being funded by government at an estimated cost of 700,000 dollars would relieve the personnel facing acute accommodation problems. Lt-Gen. Smith said: "Officers and men of the forces should be given a deserving accommodation and the necessary logistics to be able to achieve the missions and tasks assigned to them". The sideline of the event was the aeronautic manoeuvrings of four jet fighters, which emitted a trail of smoke which burst in the air to the astonishment of the crowd. The jets according to Flight Lieutenant David Nkansah manoeuvred in formations called "inverted flights", "knife edge", and "big heart". He said the smoke signified the deep love the GAF had in defending Ghana.
