One Injured In NDC, NPP Clash In Nanton

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that one person has been injured in a clash between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party at Tampion in the Savelugu Nanton District in the Northern Region.

The clash which erupted at about 8pm on Sunday night saw one person injured and was rushed to the Savelugu Hospital for treatment.

An eye witness told DAILY GUIDE that the NDC had a mini rally close to the Chief’s palace where NPP have their party pavilion located and some NDC supporters were riding motorbikes across the front of the pavilion where NPP supporters were seated.

He indicated that the activities of the motor riders created a lot of dust which angered the NPP youth at the pavilion and they confronted the NDC motor riders which generated into an argument between the two parties.

In the confusion, the Constituency Organizer of the NDC one Harry slapped an NPP supporter and other NPP supporters rushed to the defence of their colleague resulting into fisticuffs.

“They fought each other fiercely with stones, firewood, knives and all they could find,” the witness narrated.

He stated that the fight ended abruptly when an NDC supporter pulled out a locally manufactured pistol which sight sent the fighters scurrying for safety “but the NPP pavilion was razed down completely.”

The Chief of Tampion later invited both parties to his palace and appealed to them to stop the violence since that would only dent the reputation of the constituency.

The incident was reported at the Savelugu police station by the two political parties and the matter was subsequently referred to Tamale for further investigations.

Efforts to reach executives of the NDC in the constituency proved futile.
