School Boards must co-operate with Managements - Afosah-Anim

Boards of Governors of second-cycle institutions have been urged to work closely with managements to ensure the smooth administration of schools. Mrs Ernestina Afosah-Anim, the Greater-Accra Regional Director of Education, who made the call, reminded school boards and administrators that the development of schools depend largely on their co-operation. Mrs Afosah-Anim was speaking at the inauguration of the Board of Governors for the Manhean Secondary-Technical School (MANSECTECH) at Tema, New Town, on Friday. The 14-member board has Mr Seth Ago Adjetey, representative of the Tema Metro Assembly, as its Chairman, with Mr Isaac Odamtten, representative of the Tema Traditional Council, as the Vice Chairman. The Regional and Metro Directors of Education, the headmaster of the School, and Mr Peter Kwasi Adu, representative of the Director-General of Education, are some of the members. Mrs Afosah-Anim reminded members of the board that they were taking office at a time when the school was faced with enormous challenges, and, therefore, urged them to work diligently in order to deserve the confidence reposed in them. Mrs Victoria Opoku, Tema Metro Director of Education, urged them to live above reproach. She advised the students to be studious, disciplined and respectful. Mr Ebenezer Adjierteh, immediate past board chairman, promised that the new board would be accorded the needed co-operation to enable it live up to expectation. Mr Adjetey, on behalf of members, thanked the government for the confidence reposed in them, and pledged that they were determined to give of their best to help bring honour and glory to the school. Mr Joseph Amuah, Headmaster of MANSECTECH, catalogued lack of Staff Accommodation, Transportation, Classrooms and Science Laboratories, as some of the major challenges facing the school. Mr Amuah expressed regret that only two out of the 40 Staff Members were staying on campus, and appealed to the Ghana Education Service, the Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders, to go to the school's aid and provide the staff with accommodation. He also expressed concern that the school was a day institution, and said there would be an increase in enrolment with the provision of hostel facilities for students.
