Parliamentary candidate for the Progressive Peoples’ Party (PPP) in the Adentan constituency of the Greater Accra Region was a delight to watch as he engaged a cross-section of his constituents about his party’s plan for the constituency when voted into power.
The PPP parliamentary candidate for the area, Alhaji Mohammed Muftao, also used the platform to pledge to engage in an issue-based campaign ahead of the December7, polls.
The PPP candidate made the pledge during a parliamentary debate organised by the municipal office of the National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) with support from the European Union at the End-Time Assemblies of God Church Hall in Accra.
Meanwhile, candidates for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Convention People’s Party (CPP) contesting for the parliamentary seat in the Adentan constituency; failed to turn up for the debate.
When it got the turn Alhaji Muftoa, he called on the gathering to ensure that they maintain the peace the constituency has enjoyed over the years before, during, and after the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
“As a parliamentary hopeful, one of the things I would do is to listen, when you listen and communicate you are able to provide for the needs of the people” he noted.
Speaking in an interview with Today after the event, Acting Municipal Director of NCCE, Madam Sylvia Osei-Bonsu, thanked the identifiable groups and individuals who took time off their busy schedule to attend the programme.
However, she could not hide her disappointment in the NPP, NDC and CPP candidates who failed to show up.
Some of the participants who came all the way from Adjiriganor and Malejon to enquire from the candidates, especially that of the NPP and NDC about policies they have put in place to develop the area, felt disappointed about the failure by other candidates to be part of the debate.
“Their failure to meet with us shows that both the NPP and the NDC candidates do not respect us. If not they would have shown up to interact with us,” one of the members said.
