UNICEF Statistics: Central Region Records High Rate Of Child Prostitution

"Statistics recorded by UNICEF show that in Ghana, Central Region record high rate of Child prostitution all because of child trafficking," David Kofi Awusi stated.

The Director of End Modern Slavery, Mr. David Kofi Awusi was speaking at a launch of Trafficking Free-road campaign in collaboration with the GPRTU in the Central Region

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Awusi advised that children are not for sale.

"They are also protected by the Laws of Ghana so we should rather help them to develop their Vision and dreams," he noted.

He further said "we should not destroy the children's future by taking ghc50 and ghc100 to sell them(children) off into slavery." 

According to him, they are engaging the GPRTU because these trafficking normally took place by road so, we are distributing anti- slavery branded stickers as well as a short video documentary to be shown in their vehicles.

"This way, passengers and ordinary Ghanaian both in the cities and remote communities will be sensitized and empowered to know how to resist, identify and report such cases of trafficking in its various forms," he added.
