Cote dIvoire Hit Five Past Ghana

The Black Stars began their quest for a World Cup ticket on a shaky note after bowing to their West African foes in Lagos.

Ghana Beach soccer team bowed 5-0 to Cote d’Ivoire in their opening game of the 2016 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations in Lagos.

Goals from Kablan Aka, Nahounound Djedjed, Fabrice Gbagra, Assouan Kablan and Kouao Djimi were all Soro Lohognon' team needed to tame the Black Stars at the Eko Atlantic Beach, Lagos.

Daniel Neequaye’s men were unimpressive from the start but were resolute in defending as they kept the Ivorians forwards under check, but a defensive mix in the closing seconds of the first quarter saw them trail by a lone goal courtesy of Aka’s effort.

Goals from Gbagra and Kablan gave Cote d’Ivoire a three-goal advantage while Assouan and Djimi put the game beyond the reach of the Ghanaians as the game ended 5-0.

Ghana would be hoping to bounce back when they face Egypt in their next game on Wednesday, while Cote d’Ivoire who are runners-up in 2009 and 2013 face two-time champions, Nigeria.
