Ashaiman MCE Awarding Bogus Contracts

THE ASHAIMAN Constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have accused the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly (ASHMA) for illegally renewing contracts and awarding fresh contracts to members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as the party goes into opposition.

According to the NPP, the assembly is renewing all expired contracts for operators of lorry parks, public toilets among other facilities without considering the change in political administration.

The party cited the main lorry terminal as a revenue point for the assembly which management contract expired November this year. The assembly had refused to renew the contract after the December 7 polls when they expect to emerge victorious.

However, the assembly is currently determined to award the contract to two NDC stalwarts barely three-weeks to the end of their regime.

The NPP has therefore advised the MCE to halt the renewal of contracts until a new administration takes over “since it is politically incorrect.”

The Ashaiman NPP executives further alleged that they have received reliable information that the ASHMA is engaging some party members to sell off some parcels of lands to them at Community 21.

Mr. Emmanuel Chapman Kodam-Takyi, the Constituency Secretary of the NPP in Ashaiman speaking at a news conference sent a word of caution to the public to trod with care in accessing such bogus deals as any government land acquired illegally would be definitely reclaimed.

“Anybody who patronise the land would lose it when there is a change of administration come January, 2017,” they warned.

Mr Kodam Takyi stressed that all illegal contracts awarded to party cronies would be seriously investigated and the appropriate actions taken if the contracts fall foul of the law.

Meanwhile, all efforts to get Mr. Baidoo, the Ashaiman MCE to respond to the allegations had proved futile.
