Tamale: Ambassador Fires Gunshot At Noisy Church

Ghana's deputy ambassador to Saudi Arabia Hajia Boya Gariba has fired gunshots repeatedly at a congregants worshipping in a building near her residence in Tamale after a relative who went to complain of noise disturbance was attacked and injured.

The incident happened  Sunday morning on Christmas Day when members of the Spring of Life Assembly Church were praying in a House turned into a worship centre. It is unclear the number of casualty in the festive day gun attack which caused a chaotic scene but senior members of the church said they were still examining their members.

Adom News gathered "a little boy" was asked by a daughter of the ambassador to inform the shouting and yelling worshippers to bring down their speakers or reduce the noise they make. The worship center is a neck- stretching distance from the ambassador's house.

The "boy" was however allegedly beaten and chased backed into house.

Seeing that, Hajia Boya angrily pulled out a short gun, stormed outside and fired many times at the congregants and dispersed them. The ambassador had accused the church of "noise pollution" and lodged complaints to police and chiefs to ban its operation.

Hajia Boya after the shots was heard saying "they came here to attack me so I had to call the regional commander, and I told them to stop, you won't stop because it’s not a church. I did the shooting because they gave it to us for self protection.

"I have reported to the police, the CID has come here several times they won't stop. I was bathing then they came here to attack us and they even wounded this boy so I have shot. The gun is licensed and I have been trained to use it" she said.

Police arrived at the scene but couldn't affect any arrest.

Another senior member of the church said the police have ordered a temporal closure of the church.
