Nana Addos Appointments Unconstitutional - Hon Akandoh

A decision by President-elect Nana Akufo Addo to name certain individuals he would be working with during the first term of his tenure, has been described as “alien” and one that lacks constitutional backing by the Member of Parliament for Juaboso.

Hon. Mintah Akandoh explains that he has taken the pain to thoroughly search the constitution but is yet to come across any instrument that gives our President-elect the power to name his ministers before he is sworn into power.

Shortly after President-elect, Nana Akufo Addo had toured the Flagstaff House yesterday, he organized a press conference at his residence to name some members of his backroom staff to steer the affairs of government at least for the first four years.

But speaking in an interview on Radio Gold which was monitored by Peacefmonline.com, the outgoing Deputy Minister of Natural Resources noted that the president-elect could have just waited for a few days after his swearing-in to name ministers and staff he wishes to work with at the Presidency.

The legislator claims the step taken by the incoming president is a bad one.

What Nana Addo has done is alien to the constitution of the land…he should know governance is a serious business”, he said.

Hon. Mintah Akandoh insisted that the appointments by the president-elect were needless and gave an explanation that “he (Nana Addo) should be sworn in first before starting his appointments”.

He further explained that “Nana Addo isn’t the President of the land today… only the President can make an appointment. We always have one president not two. This is a democratic country so we have to abide by our rules and regulations".
