6 Arrested For Theft During Presidents Inauguration

Police arrested at least six persons for allegedly engaging in some criminal activities within the Black Star Square during the swearing-in ceremony of President Nana Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The suspects are currently being processed for court for allegedly stealing from some guests at the event.

In a Citi News interview, the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, said the police recorded ten different cases of theft at the event.

“We recorded about 10 cases of petty crimes like pick-pocketing or situations where people’s mobile phones were picked up and other things. And of those cases, we managed to arrest the perpetrators. Yesterday [Saturday], the perpetrators were being processed and further sent to the Nima and Ministries police station for further action.”

“So out of the 10 petty cases of stealing that we recorded, at the time that I was there, about six of them had been arrested and those people were going to be processed for court,” Supt. Arthur said.

5,000 personnel from the police and the military were in and around the Black Star Square to oversee matters pertaining to security.
