MLS Side Sporting KC Sign Latif Blessing

The forward has joined the MLS side following a wonderful season in the Ghanaian top-flight.

Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas City have signed Ghanaian midfielder Latif 'Atta' Blessing in a two-year deal until 2019, with an option to extend for one additional year.

The 20-year-old was initially linked with a move to South African side Cape Town FC, after cancelling negotiations with Tunisian outfit Esperance.

“Latif Blessing has signed an MLS contract through with an option for Sporting Kansas City. He'll be added to the roster pending receipt of his ITC and P1 visa," a club statement read.

"Blessing was named the 2016 Ghana Premier League PoTY after leading the top flight with 17 goals in his first season in the senior team. He was also a finalist for 2016 Ghanaian FA Cup MVP award, helping Liberty Professionals reach the semis of the knockout competition," the statement added.

Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes lauded the qualities Blessing, claiming he has the potential to be a big player.

“We have scouted Latif and been very impressed with what we’ve seen from him,” Vermes said. “The great thing we love about him is that he is young, but with a lot of upside as evidence by his goal scoring record with his previous club.

“With every player you acquire, you always feel they have potential, but we also think he has a great attitude, and we think he has the ability to reach his potential with our club,” he added.

Blessing joined Liberty from Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in 2013 after being regarded as surplus to requirement.

He was named in Ghana's provisional squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations holding in Gabon next week but couldn't make the final squad.
