Mahamas Quest To Have Cantonments Residence Not In Good Faith - Dr. Afriyie

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie says former President Mahama must be prevented from keeping his Cantonments official residence.

He explained that the former president’s desire “is not in good faith” – so therefore his request must be rejected by the Nana Addo-led administration.

Basically I oppose strongly the former president's quest to have that residential facility. I don’t think it’s in good faith. There is some moral situation around the request regardless of the provision of the various presidential committees. We have to look at this historically, and then you will understand that, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.”

“It doesn’t make sense to execute the president’s request,” he said.

President Mahama has been occupying the Cantonments residence since his days as Vice President and had requested to use it as his retirement home, a request that was made before the end of his 4-year tenure President.

His request has not been granted though – according to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah who speaks for the government transitional team, "in the shortest possible time", the new government will take a decision on the request made by former President Mahama.

Speaking on Citi FM, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie was emphatic that – “The Nana Addo that I know will not allow this move. Ex-President Kufour till now doesn’t have his official home by the state, so there’s no need.
