I Wish For A Male From The Creative Arts Industry As My Deputy- Catherine Afeku

Minister Designate for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Catherine Afeku has finally spoken about the long running debate about who would be her deputy.

Madam Catherine speaking in an exclusive interview on Peace FM's "Entertainment Review" show, also revealed the kind of personality she prefers as her possible deputy. According to her, she has being following all discussions both on social media and mainstream media.

The yet-to-be confirmed Minister said she wishes for a deputy who would preferably come from the creative arts industry.  

"It is my wish that the deputy would come from the industry, the creative arts and talented artistes. So we would present the names to the president but the prerogative is with the president. He would consult us but the ultimate decision is with him".

She also added that a male deputy would make a good gender balance.

"Based on the experience of my predecessors, some of us women turn to work well with men. Nothing discriminatory but we should balance gender as well".

According to madam Afeku, some speculated name she has heard include; Film Producer Socrate Sarfo, Music Producer - Mark Okraku Mantey, Actress/Film Maker - Juliet Asante, Marketing/Events Executive - Kojo Antwi, among others.

Speaking about her priority areas for her ministry, she said if she is confirmed, open defecation at our beach and other tourist sites would be a thing of the past during her reign as the minister.    

She has revealed that in her first 100 days in office as Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative she will renovate the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum. She said she would make tourism in Ghana attractive by creating the "Akwaaba Efftect".

Madam Catherine also stated that she would make the creative arts sector and culture as prominent as tourism.   

President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo on Thursday January 12, 2016 announced the nomination of Member of Parliament for Evalue Jomoro-Gwira constituency in the Western region, Catherine Abelema Afeku as Minister designate for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Ministry.

She will be taking over from former Tourism Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.
