PHOTOS of Asantehemaa's Corpse: Manhyia Fumes

Otumfuo's Suman-Brafuo, Baffour Bosompra Adukwa Boateng, has described as worrying the circulation of the pictures of the corpse of Asantehemaa Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II on social media.

According to him, such act had the tendency of denting the tradition of the Asante kingdom.

Although the Manhyia palace is yet to make an official comment on the issue, they have banned mourners from carrying mobile phones and any form of camera. Journalists have also been cordoned off the remains of the queen mother.

Baffour Boateng warned of consequences if the public does not desist from such acts.

“The chiefs met and decided to enforce the ban on carrying mobile phones and any camera to where the queen mother lays. The picture of the Asantehemaa lying in state is worrying because in the Asante tradition, things like these are kept secret. You can take pictures of everything but not the corpse; that is what is against our culture and traditions. We don’t want such things being public otherwise we would have allowed the television stations to record her and show on national TV for all to see. The same thing happened when Bantamahene died. The picture of the corpse was all over, it is worrying,” Baffour Boateng told Class News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent Hafiz Tijani.

Late Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II has been lying in state for three days since Monday, 16 January. She will be laid to rest on Thursday.
