Kotoko Confirm Africa Slot

Asante Kotoko have confirmed their participation in next year's Caf Champions League less than 24 hours after rivals Hearts of Oak withdrew their slot. Kotoko were bridesmaids to Hearts in the Ghanaian League last term and stated their desire to compete in the prestigious club competition on the continent. Hearts pulled out citing the lack of funds and unimpressive performances in the domestic league but Kotoko seems to be the opposite. The Kumasi-based team have managed five points from three league matches and believe they have the personnel and financial wherewithal to play in Africa. "We are going to Africa Insha Allah but we have to sit down and discuss some issues about the way to go about things first before coming out," Kotoko chairman Alhaji Abubakar Salifu told the Graphic Sports. Kotoko are yet to win the Caf Champions League but have lifting the defunct Africa Clubs Championship on two occasion in 1973 and 1980.
