Melcom Opens Another Branch

Melcom Limited has opened its 23rd shopping mall in the country in Sunyani with the promise to make its goods available across the length and breadth of the country in the foreseeable future. "Our aim is to expand our shops throughout Ghana and since the prices of our goods will be the same in all our shops it will save people from wasting precious time and money in travelling long distances to other places to purchase them", Mr. Mehash Melwani, the Managing Director, said. He said the company's new shopping mall, the second in the Brong-Ahafo Regional capital, was stocked with more than 4,000 separate items and was specially designed to meet the growing demand in the region. Melcom won national awards as best retail outlet for five consecutive years from 2002 to 2006. Mr. John Gyetuah, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry who was in the region for the opening of the week-long "Dwa Kese" (trade fair) as part of the activities of the B/A @ 50 celebration, commended the company's management for their initiative and commitment. He said the vision of the company was in line with the ministry's policy of strengthening the private sector and expressed the hope that Melcom would live up to its social corporate responsibility to the people in the region. Mr. Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, the Regional Minister, also commended the company for its "seriousness in business operations" saying it opened opportunities for expansion. He noted the challenge of unemployment that faced the youth and urged investors to take advantage of the immense business potentials of the region to create jobs to stem the tide of irregular migration of the youth to seek greener pastures abroad. Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri, Omanhene of Sunyani, said the traditional authorities were ready to offer land to any prospective investor in the municipality.
